Have you ever found yourself waking up in the morning after hitting the snooze button three times, jumping in the shower, getting dressed as quick as possible, and rushing out the door to get to work on time? In today’s culture, that morning routine is becoming more and more common. The important task missing from most people’s morning routines nowadays is eating breakfast. Most people believe that they have no time at all to eat breakfast (let alone cook something) in the morning.

Now I could easily make this post about how important a strong morning routine is and how time should be made and organized so that you do not find yourself rushing out the door every morning, but that is a post for another day. Today I want to talk about a breakfast option that can be prepared the night before, eaten quickly in the morning, is healthy for you, and tastes delicious!

This breakfast option is Overnight Oats! Today I want to explain what Overnight Oats are, why they are good for you, and how to prepare them. Later in the week, I will give you guys a few delicious and healthy recipes that you can try!

What are Overnight Oats?

Overnight oats are a blend of raw rolled oats, a liquid base, a sweetener of your choice, and any other toppings/additions you want to include. Your oatmeal and additions are mixed together in a mason jar the night before you want to eat them. You let your ingredients soak overnight and you have a healthy and delicious breakfast waiting for you in the morning!

Why are Overnight Oats a Healthy Breakfast Option?

Oatmeal is a great option for breakfast in the morning (especially if organic and not processed, and please don’t use the sugar-filled packets!). Oats are full of essential vitamins and minerals, are a great carbohydrate source to give you some energy in the morning, and they are packed with fiber. The additions to your Overnight Oats can also make it even more healthy! You can pack your breakfast with additional protein, healthy-fats, fiber, and plenty of vitamins and minerals.

How to Make Overnight Oats?

The best part about Overnight Oats is how easy it is to prepare.

You start off by choosing your ingredients (we will get into exact ingredients this week!). Your ingredients may include oats, your milk of choice (dairy, almond, coconut, etc.), Greek yogurt, and your sweetener or choice (raw honey, pure maple syrup, etc.) From there you can add whatever you’d like! Some popular additions are spices (ex. cinnamon), fruits (bananas, blueberries, strawberries, etc.), and nuts (walnuts, almonds, pecans, etc).

After you choose your ingredients, you’ll need an air-tight container. I have found that mason jars work great. You can choose the size of the jar based on how big or small you want your breakfast to be.

After you choose your container, you fill the jar with your oats and then pour your milk so that the oats are covered. You then add the rest of the ingredients into the jar, close the lid tight, and then place it in the fridge.

In the morning you can wake up, go through your normal routine, and enjoy a quick and delicious breakfast that can even be taken on-the-go if necessary.

No cooking necessary! All you need to do is make sure that you combine all of the ingredients, close the lid tight, and let it sit for at least 4-6 hours in the refrigerator (overnight for 8 hours is preferred- duh).

You can eat your Overnight Oats right out of the fridge in the morning or you can heat them up if you prefer your breakfast to be warm.

So, there you have it! A quick and easy, healthy breakfast for all of you busy readers out there who tend to skip breakfast. Breakfast is a very important meal, especially if you tend to expel a lot of energy in the morning and don’t have time to eat until lunch. You don’t want to find yourself running on fumes by mid-day. Another great options in the morning that can be prepared very quick are smoothies! I have written about smoothies before and have provided recipes in a prior blog post. **Some people love to include their favorite protein powders (especially chocolate and vanilla flavors) in their overnight oat recipes.

I have received a lot of questions about my current protein powder so I figured I would give some information in this post!

I have been using Sun Warrior's Warrior Protein Blend as my protein powder for the past few years. I found that Whey protein bothers my stomach and makes me feel crappy (if you feel you may be having some issues with your Whey protein click here for my blog post on the subject to learn more), so I began using a Vegan protein source.

I have been so happy with Sun Warrior’s products that I have partnered with them in order to provide my loyal readers with a 15% discount on all of their products! You can use the link below or use the coupon code – UNLEASH. I am sure you will be happy with all of their products!
